IR(ME)R 2000 Referrer Training

A referrer is a registered health professional who is entitled to refer patients for medical exposure to a practitioner, by following the employers written procedures. We provide referrer training to our health professionals to enable them to make informed decisions when referring individuals for radiological examination. We run training sessions about five times per year at the Wolverhampton Medical Institute building at New Cross Hospital.

RPS Training and Refresher Training
The role of the Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) is to help ensure compliance under IRR99 regulations and to supervise arrangements set out in local rules.

The radiation employer has a duty to provide appropriate training for all employees working with ionising radiation; the RPS should be sufficiently trained to ensure knowledge of radiation protection principles and procedures, requirements of the Regulations, and the arrangements in the local rules to enable them to supervise work safely and restrict exposure.

Our RPS training /refresher training provides core knowledge in several aspects of radiation protection which include: radiation and its effects, the Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999, personal monitoring and staff doses, and reduction of radiation hazards.

The training is tailored to fulfil the requirements of the RPS depending on experience or the complexity of the work been undertaken.
