I came away from school with A-levels in Physics, Maths and Psychology and didn’t really know what I wanted to do with myself. After a year out I undertook a degree in Mechanical Engineering due to my great interest in maths and physics. It turned out that I did not enjoy the degree and, upon leaving after my first year, I realised I wanted to do something that involved both my love of maths and physics and my desire to help people and interact with people on a day-to-day basis. This lead me to explore the options in health care and I stumbled upon this opportunity and have not looked back since.
For me this job is perfect as it allows me to have a mix of technically challenging, scientific work and patient contact. Each day provides a new technical challenge and, due to each patient being completely different from the next, requires a diverse approach and adaptable nature. Despite having been here 4 years, and some people having been here much longer, unique cases still present themselves regularly. This is further compounded by the fact that this is an ever changing and advancing field that means technology is constantly improving and allowing us to deliver treatment with ever increasing accuracy and precision. This has allowed me to work with state of the art, cutting edge equipment and really plays into my love of science and technology. One of the main pulls of this centre has been the team members I work with. I have made some great friends here and every single member of staff has bent over backwards to not only make me feel welcome but provide me with a great level of help and support of my training period. Since week 1 I have felt comfortable and part of the family and after a year it felt as if I had been here my whole life.
Having moved here from the Cambridge area I was initially sceptical about Wolverhampton and moving to this new city on my own. From people I had spoken to about going I concluded that the reputation of the city was not the best but this did not put me off. Having moved here I feel that people’s opinions of the city were wrong completely. It offers everything you could need and has some stunning scenery within a few minutes driving distance. The retail park, leisure centre and supermarket directly across the hospital are fantastic and the housing opportunities (not to mention how cheap it is to rent) make it extremely affordable. I have particularly enjoyed the amount of quality ale pubs and gorgeous country pubs in the area and, being a bit of a foodie, the fantastic range of restaurants and eateries.
