Career Path to Date: I undertook my general nurse training at the Royal United Hospital, Bath, for 3 years. Upon completion, I gravitated back to my home town of Wolverhampton, working as a staff nurse for 18 months in a general surgical ward. Following this, I pursued a career in midwifery, undertaking training at Wordsley Hospital, Dudley and graduating from Coventry University with a Diploma in Higher Education. However, I soon realised that my heart was in nursing and in 1996, returned to New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, to work as a general nurse. Thereafter, I worked as a surgical nurse in varying capacities, concluding this stage of my career as Ward Manager/ Senior Sister to commence my current post with M.P.C.E. What do you like about the work? Truly everything: the people/ team I work with; the scope that my role offers and the flexibility I am given within the role to enhance and improve the service we provide to positively impact staff experience, patient safety and patient care; the autonomy the role allows me and feeling valued within the team as an integral element of the service. The cherry on the cake?... being part of a team that has had their credentials endorsed by an award. What you like about living in Wolverhampton: My extended family and many of my friends live locally so my heart belongs to the city. Having worked in several Trusts and seeing and hearing first hand, staff new to the Trust through induction device training, I know how RWH heavily supports staff and really has patient safety at the forefront. Why, then would I want to live and work anywhere else? |
