Since March 1998, 16 years

CAREER PATH TO NOW
I joined MPCE as a Senior Assistant Technical Officer (SATO), under the old MTO structure. I was one of two SATOs tasked with getting a new venture underway. This was to be called the Medical Equipment Library. This opened successfully on June 10th 1998, and has grown from strength to strength, now known as the Clinical Equipment Resource Library (CERL). One of the great advantages of working in the Medical Equipment Library was getting out on the wards regularly, and building relationships with staff. During these early days I was studying Electronic Engineering at college as part of an ONC course. MPCE were very supportive in this. Having completed the ONC, in 2000 I applied for and was successful in a post as Critical Care Technician, first at level MTO2, then MTO3. I spent very happy years in Critical Care and continued my studies, receiving a HNC with distinction in 2002. In the Autumn of that year I applied for and was successful in becoming the Chief Cardiology Technican, Level MTO4. This was a very exciting job, and led me naturally to migrate when, in 2003 a team was being moulded to supply technical expertise to the new Heart & Lung Centre Project. I broadened my role to include Cardiac Investigations, specialising in cardiac ultrasound, stress testing, pacing, and other diagnostic physiologic testing. In 2011 the Head of Clinical Engineering spearheaded a new initiative to have experienced staff handle the day-to-day management of sections within his remit. I really felt I could meet the challenge to build the team up, and was successful in becoming Section Head for EBME. This commenced 3 June 2011.

WHAT YOU LIKE ABOUT THE WORK

I love being able to diagnose faults, and by putting them right to contribute to the overall care our patients at New Cross get. I enjoy training others in techniques for fault diagnosis and treatment. I also value the opportunity to be a role model for others, and the great support that the management in MPCE continue to supply. The working relationships I have built up are all intact and stronger. But the greatest reward is knowing that the work we do as a team makes a difference here at New Cross.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT LIVING IN WOLVERHAMPTON

Wolverhampton has everything I need. I live very close to countryside and value the quiet, but can travel just a few minutes to major stores and vibrancy if I wish. The cultural diversity in Wolverhampton means that my circle of friends includes people many countries; from Romania, Czech Republic, Africa, Italy, USA, the West Indies, India, Pakistan and others. This enriches my pleasure in life more than its possible to express.
